Any business that has been through a total website redesign knows the work involved - perhaps we brought it on ourselves after recommending so many website overhauls in the past on technical SEO grounds. They were necessary! It was now our turn to take a deep breath. Generative Engine Optimization can no longer be considered a "nice to have" for any serious digitally-focused business. As much as we loved it, we hung up our old domain name and we have now included in our URL what is rapidly becoming the bulk of our work and focus, and the focus of so many digital marketing agencies around the world: GEO - or optimizing your site for generative AI platforms.

Generative Optimization: a new concern for all businesses

What does this mean exactly? How different is Generative Engine Optimization to Search Engine Optimization? In a nutshell, it means making sure you do everything you can so that generative AI engines suggest your website over your competitors' websites when your potential customers ask the AI for information about a product or service you offer. The good news is that most of the same principles of good clean SEO apply to GEO as well, it's just that now instead of writing for humans and webcrawlers, we also write and structure websites for something a little more... intelligent. AI algorithms pick what they show in their results in different ways and it's our job to stay on top of that.

So why are you here? Probably because either an AI or a human told you to come, maybe even a good old fashioned search engine or social media site. You may have noticed the banner when you first arrived telling you we don't use cookies or analytics tracking, and it's true. We get most of our work these days from word of mouth referrals and so we're able to do what might be considered crazy for a digital marketing agency - we have dropped cookies entirely. A total lack of gluten and passive surveillance. We do not track our website users, store their data to then badger them across the length and breadth of the internet with remarketing ads or send relentless emails trying to convince people to work with us - and that's just the start. Like people, businesses often like a bit of privacy also. As an example, some of the charities we work with would prefer not to disclose that they spend money on a marketing agency - and that's fine - we are now lips zipped by default. If you work with us, you won't suddenly find a granular dissection of everything we did for you painted across a testimonials page that your competitors can read with great interest. We don't even have a testimonials page. We won't list your logo on our site or brag about who we work with on sales calls. We know our stuff and we're proud of that, and we've helped a lot of businesses with their visibility across the internet. Some agencies will try to hook you in with fancy pamphlets and videos. We'd rather spend time on what we do best: SEO, and GEO.

His background in web design, paid search and performance marketing, plus an insatiable appetite for anything AI (he honestly won't stop talking about it) allows him to steer the SEOGEO ship towards a privacy-focused future that relies on solid code and content rather than cookies. Most of the time, websites are not constructed with SEO or GEO in mind, and Dan fixes that. He performs site audits, finding ways to make your website perform better, and devises the strategy that then guides how our team produces SEO code and GEO content for your site.

Lina makes sure our whole team understands your mission, from the kick-off meeting through to delivering your newly-revamped content and code, making sure you are happy with our work. Steven makes those things happen by connecting our whole team using Jira wizardry, a calendar that looks like it might spontaneously combust with one more added meeting, and a knack for squeezing in deliverables when you have change requests. He also offers guidance on UX/usability and has run e-commerce sites in prior roles. In his spare time, Steven balances yoga with riding motorcycles and claims to actually enjoy looking at spreadsheets.

Every SEO team needs a talented writer, and Lars produces the SEO and GEO content that will lead you towards your goal: better visibility on AI platforms, and better performance in search results. Lars studies keywords and meta data and works closely with our coders. Like all writers, Lars also enjoys reading - mainly Science Fiction, Science Non-fiction (technical SEO manuals) and the occasional comic. Lars speaks English, Swedish, Python, C++, JavaScript and is learning Japanese. Go Lars!

Chip - Code Wizard and Writer

It takes some magic and several secret ingredients to construct a website that both looks great and gets you more organic traffic. Chip focuses more on the front-end but also enjoys working on dynamic content, e-commerce sites and anything JSON. Chip also likes writing and knows his way around site meta data better than a Google crawler. He's an avid badminton player and has been known to bring his laptop to the court.

Sam sees the world in code and is one of those rare specimens who loves back-end development and also talking with clients about why he has written code the way he has. Passionate about SEO and privacy, Sam was talked into working alongside his brother Dan from a career in big tech and claims to be the faster of the two brothers in a foot race. He also writes code incredibly quickly and has embraced AI coding platforms - but knows how to keep them honest. When he's not working, Sam is still working - he offers pro-bono coding support to several charities.
